Meditation for your children in meltdown? You bet.

Meditation has proven time and time again to calm the mind and help people relax, it even works with children

Jillian Pransky of YogaWorks in The New York Times offered three very, very simple meditation exercises for children in meltdown phase, at bedtime, and perhaps just to re-center.

In one exercise, your child imagines his or her body as floors of an elevator she slowly travels from the top floor to ground floor. Another is having your child take a deep breath unfurling each finger of a fist. The third is three deep breaths, chanting the number of the breath on the exhale. Then encourage your child to enjoy feeling his body sitting or lying on his floor or bed. Hey, these ideas may even work for YOU!).
